One hundred years ago, the faeriefolk who escaped from the destruction of Imhelroh fled into the local hills, and eventually made a new home at a place called Aislin, an ancient ritual site reputed to by the gateway where the Elves first returned to the world on the shore of Ven’ah Lake. Over generations, they raised a new city, crude by ancient standards and lacking the blessing of a strong King. Other faerie cities rose throughout the former kingdom of Avanor, each assuming only some of the strength and character of the once great empire. On a clear day, Imhelroh’s ruins can be glimpsed across the lake as a cruel reminder of what was lost.
Aislin is a hereditary principality of about 1,000 people with a wider community of nearly 5,000 in the surrounding region, mostly fae folk with a sprinkling of other races. With the withdrawal of Imperial authority, Aislin has recently grown in importance as many faerie folk look to the oldest of the inheritor cities to lead a new Elvish empire. However, there is still no clear bloodline leading back to the kings of old.
Aislin is ruled by House Greenlion, a Elvish house long once respected for their adherence to tradition and the old ways, though some fear they have become weak and out of touch over the years.
